To help GSMA showcase how developments in mobile technology will shape cities in the future, we created a VR and web experience for the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona using the Oculus GO VR headset.
The experience presents a picture of a future urban environment – where mobile is delivering products and services. Within this urban environment, the user can then explore a number of stories that demonstrate the power of mobile. As each story is explored – the user will be prompted to engage with a set of questions regarding mobile technology and 5G deployment.
The ultimate ambition of the experience was to show policymakers how the realities of policy choice and how decisions taken today will impact the way in which we live and work in the future, as well as connect the audience to a story that highlights the human impact of policy decisions on the people that live in our society.
Design Direction
I was responsible for leading and designing the VR and web experience - from the user flow to the asset production - ensuring the visual style and the experience were aligned with the overall business goals and expectations of the GSMA team.
To provide a full experience accessible to anyone outside the conference, we built a web experience replicating the same framework across each Policy scenario, to allow the audience to witness the full impact a policy choice can have.
The content on desktop and mobile is the same, just adapted for the platform. At the conclusion of this experience, users are pushed to a library of GSMA reports for further reading.
